The newly appointed
Director General (Media and Communications) to Governor Ahmed Umar Fintiri, Mr.
Solomon Kumangar, has commended the Management Team of The North East
Humanitarian Innovation Hub, Yola for their ingenious deployment of Innovation
and Information Technology in tackling the humanitarian and development
challenges caused by conflict and disasters in the region in Nigeria.
The DG made the
statement when he paid a courtesy visit to the Hub On Sunday 19th July
2019.
Mr. Solomon Kumangar
noted that he looks forward to a collaboration between Adamawa State Government
and the Hub to deliver on the Governor's promise towards youth and women
empowerment within the state.
The DG said he was
impressed with the success stories emanating from the hub, particularly from
the 3D Printing Lab where Prosthetic limbs were provided to a Police officer
within Adamawa State and a young vigilante officer who had fallen victim to
bandits last December amongst 3 other beneficiaries in Kano, Borno, and Gombe
states.
The founder of the Hub, Ahmad Modibbo,
who was ably represented by the Centre Manager, Queen Ene Dalughut in his
response expressed the readiness to work with the state in future endeavours
and also outlined its past achievements as well as upcoming programmes
including the fitting of more 3D Prosthetic Limbs to several beneficiaries,
Women’s coding and entrepreneurship programme which will be hosting a 100 young
women in partnership with IT Giants CISCO and Google. Other projects include
the creation of bio-gas
digester plant located at Malkohi IDP Resettlement plant which utilizes liquid
and solid waste to produce bio-gas to serve rural communities while promoting
environmental and sanitary health practices amongst others.
The North-East Humanitarian
Innovation Hub was launched on June 5, 2018, by His Excellency, The Vice
President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.
The Hub provides co-working spaces,
training rooms and recreational facilities for
start-ups, aid-workers, social
innovators and entrepreneurs with adequate security, a serene environment, and
eco-friendly innovation-driven atmosphere.
