MAUTECH female student commits suicide because of poor results


The story is yet to be verified but i have received several calls regarding this incident
The Moddibo Adamwa University of Technology Campus was thrown into pandemonium yesterday when a female student of the department of Management technology, allegedly committed suicide on by taking a harmful mosquito repellent popularly known as "Ota pia pia" in Oba Adetona Hostel of the University.

Eye witnesses attributed the suicide to poor academic performance which she saw in her result sheet.

The school authority is yet to issue any official statement regarding the tragic incident

Multimedia Department of AUN launches free weekly Photoshop trainning


On March 17, the Communications & Multimedia Design (CMD) program of SAS launched a free Photoshop software training series for members of the AUN community wishing to learn graphic design and photo enhancement.
Opening the series, Multimedia specialist Paul Ehinomen explained that the workshop was a crash course to encourage out-of-class learning experience for students interested in graphic design or photography.  “Photoshop is the most needed software in advertising,” he said.
The hands-on training, which lasts till end of the semester, teaches participants the basics of Photoshop, photo retouching, layer masking, poster designs, color theory, and composition.  Mr. Ehinomen began by explaining the basic toolboxes in Photoshop that create the magic, stressing that the healing tool helps the designer in photo retouching or manipulation.  He also encouraged them to learn the various shortcuts of the toolboxes for easy photo editing.
He announced that at the end of the semester participants will be awarded certificates.

EFCC nab Fake currency kingpin "Habu Dogo" along Sangere check point



The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC secured the conviction and sentences of Abubakar Umar A. K. A Habu Dogo who was sentenced to seven years imprisonment by Justice Bilkisu Bello Aliyu of the Federal High Court, Yola on Six count charge bordering on conspiracy and possession of counterfeit currency. Dogo, 44, was arrested at Sengere check point of Girei Local Government Area of Adamawa State on 17 August, 2015 with several foreign counterfeit currencies.

Corps member secures release of 10 prison inmates in Yola

A Youth Corps member serving in Adamawa, Mrs Rashidat Olalade, on Tuesday facilitated the release of 10 prison inmates serving various jail terms in Jimeta Prison of Yola town.
Olalade who paid the fines of the affected inmates, said she was motivated by their plight and the need to contribute her quota towards prison decongestion.
Olalade who hailed from Ogun state, said that the N45, 000 used to off set the fines of the suspects was realized through contributions she mobilized from the public.
She urged members of the public, particularly the rich to extend their hands of support to the prison in freeing such inmates.

The Youth corps member, who, also handed over some items comprising slippers, soap and insecticides to the prison authorities for the usage of inmates in the prison, urged those freed to be of good behavior.
Commenting on the development, the Assistant Comptroller in charge of Jimeta prison, Mr Bakari Elon, lauded the effort by Olalade and urged others to emulate her in helping to decongest prisons nationwide.
Speaking on behalf of those who regain their freedom, Julius Mathias thanked Olalade for the gesture and urged others to emulate her.

Adamawa State Governor commences 14-day vacation



Adamawa state Governor, senator Umaru Jibrilla Mohammed has commenced his 2 week working vacation yesterday  the 20th of March, 2017. The Governor who formally wrote to the Adamawa State House of assembly received the approval on the 14th of March, 2017.
In his absence the Deputy Governor, Engineer Martins Babale would assume the role of acting Governor.

College of Education, Hong begins degree programmes

The Adamawa State College of Education, Hong, will begin degree programmes in six education related courses from September, the Provost, Dr Johnson Pongri, has said.
Pongri told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Yola that the the degree programmes would be affiliated to and moderated by the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.
The provost, who did not name the courses, however, said their introduction would expand the scope of academic programmes run by the teacher training institution.
“The college will soon begin its degree programme with at least with six courses.
“We are working hard to start the programme latest by September this year, especially as ABU has already giving us the go ahead.
“This programme will supplement the Adamawa State University, Mubi, which do not have a Faculty of Education,” he said.
The provost commended the Tertiary Education Trust Fund for its massive intervention in the college, and assured that funds provided for an ICT centre in the college would be properly utilised.
NAN reports that the college is currently running 36 courses leading to the award of National Certificate of Education (NCE).

Pulaakku Fm is the first full time Fulbe (Fulani) speaking radio station established in Adamawa state and has kick started full broadcast on 92.3 Frequency Modulation Band. (FM). the station will feature both news and entertainment programs in fulbe lingua.

Presiding bishop of the Upperrom churches worldwide, Bishop Peter Makanto, today surprised several members of his church by giving them plots of land for free!
The clergy announced that members of his ministry who were 18 years and above and had been with the church for more than 10 years and did not have land or house of their own should step forward. As several members of the congregation stepped forward, without any clue of what would happen next, he went on to ask them to write and submit their names to him. after receiving the list, he announced that for those who stepped forward they would receive one plot of land each for free.

Young CEO from AUN solves problem of long queues at ATM


The American University of Nigerians’ School of Business and Entrepreneurship (SBE) has once again recorded a milestone in its bid to usher in the new wave of global entrepreneurs from its campus. On February 24th the students celebrated the launch of “Genie Loans” , a business project created and managed by 15 SBE students from the ENT 201 class with the aim of aiding students and staff financially via soft loans in partnership with HR & Planning.

The CEO of Genie loans, Miss Karen Makanto said the reason for the idea was out of concern due to the long ques experienced by both staff and students at ATM’s at the end of the month. The solution was to create a payment system where interested AUN community members needing cash could request for it and receive cash payments with a very minimal percentage interest . No ques no hassle.

14 people have died in a very gruesome accident along Ngurore - Numan Road. The unfortunate incident took place by 8pm last night when a trailer carrying herds of cattle and drop by passengers tried to avoid ramming into a toyota startlet vehicle thus swerving to the edge of the road.
the singular act threw the passengers which led to their immediate death as well as that of some cattle.
eye witnesses say the driver of the vehicle fled the scene immediately.
Members of the "Operation Tsaro" Security agency where at the scene to cart away the corpses.

Yola businessman dies after jubilation over FC Barcelona's victory

BREAKING: EFCC secures conviction of former Adamawa governor, Bala Ngilari

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has secured the conviction of former Adamawa state governor, Barrister Bala James Ngilari over the award of contracts worth N167.8 million without recourse to due process.
The conviction was given on Monday by Justice Nathan Musa of the Adamawa State High Court sitting in Yola.

The ex-governor faced a 17-count charge ranging from criminal conspiracy to award of contract for the purchase of 25 cars without obtaining the certificate of ‘No Objection’ from the state procurement agency.

AUN BOARD NAMES PROF QUESENBERRY AS INTERIM PRESIDENT

The Board of Trustees of the American University of Nigeria on February 25 announced the appointment of Professor Le Gene Quesenberry, the Provost, as the Interim President of the university.
This follows Dr. Margee Ensign’s offer of resignation of her appointment as President of the American University of Nigeria with effect from May 1, 2017, due to personal reasons.

The Board has also announced the appointment of Professor Ahmad Hosseini, the Dean of School of Business & Entrepreneurship, as the Interim Provost. Both appointments take effect from February 25, 2017.
