The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed that 130,000 people have been affected by the recent flood disaster in Adamawa State.
The director general of the agency, Alhaji Sani Sidi, who confirmed this in Yola yesterday while delivering relief materials worth several millions of naira to the Adamawa State Governor Alhaji Umar Bindow, said that the flood affected 15 local governments in the state.
Sid, who urged the governor to embark on aggressive sensitisation of the people to avoid building houses on waterways and relocate to highland, also blamed the indiscriminate dumping of refuse on waterways by individuals and some corporate organisations.
He said that the relief materials, which included food and other domestic items, were part of the present administration’s policy to ensure that Nigerians are not left alone in their difficult situations.
However, the Chief Medical Director of Federal Medical Centre, Yola, Prof. Awal Umar Abubakar, has confirmed that seven more victims of last Friday Jambutu Mosque bomb blast in Yola, the Adamawa State capital have died in the hospital.
He said that some of the victims are responding positively to treatment, pointing out that multiple surgery have been carried out on some of the victims that have fractures.
