Borno based usinessman Alhaji Muhammad Indimi, donates 100 million naira to Adamawa Peace Initiative
AUN and Adamawa Peace Initiative (API), its partner organization, have expressed their gratitude to the Executive Governor of Adamawa State, Alhaji Muhammad Umaru Jibrilla, for the prompt release of the ₦100 million which had been donated to assist in the feeding and rehabilitation of the internally displaced in the state.
API announced in a statement on Thursday, October 22, that it has received the funds for IDP relief from the Adamawa State Government.
The Peacemakers specifically appreciated Borno State philanthropist and Chairman of Oriental Energy Resources Limited, Alhaji Muhammad Indimi, who donated the money. Dr. Indimi is a proud parent of three AUN graduates, including a pioneer student.
AUN-API member, Mr. Bello Abdullahi, who coordinates distribution of food and other relief materials to the IDPs, confirmed receipt of the ₦100 million; the money is being judiciously deployed for the original purpose of humanitarian assistance in which AUN-API has been a national leader for the last several years.
The AUN-API statement assured the Governor and the public that the funds were being transparently used to care for the remaining IDPs in the Yola-Jimeta axis, and in assisting in the rehabilitation of the majority that have now returned to their ruined houses in the northern parts of Adamawa.
A committee of the AUN-API successfully developed an action plan that focused on supporting the communities that were most affected by the insurgency, while also considering each town’s estimated population. Michika, Madagali, Hong, and Mubi were identified as the worst hit of those towns.
Two other towns, Gombi and Maiha, are scheduled next. Bello also reported that the Committee agreed to spend ₦10 million, which is 20 percent of the budget, on medicines and ₦40 million, which is 80 percent, on food supplies.
The coordinator said there are also sub-committees that will verify storage locations, begin the process of identifying beneficiaries, identify drug storage facilities and primary health care facilities for medical supplies, as well as begin to identify on-ground support systems. These members, he said, hail from the seven towns that are on the priority list.
On October 14, a committee led by Bishop Stephen Mamza, Imam Dauda Bello, and Hajia Turai Abdulkadir visited Michika in the company of foreign and local journalists and conducted a needs assessment as well as distributed food supplies. The team is going back to those areas for a follow-up this weekend.
Three days earlier, during a food distribution exercise at the JNI headquarters in Jimeta, Dr. Ensign announced that the Adamawa State government had made good its promise to support AUN-API’s humanitarian efforts. Dr. Indimi's donation, through the Governor, adds to the growing pool of funds, which AUN-API has been putting the sake of survivors of Boko Haram. Only a week ago, the organization received ₦50 million from the Dangote Foundation towards the ₦1 billion Insurgency Intervention Fund, formally launched in Lagos on October 6.
