**TRAGIC** More communities submerged by floods in Adamawa State !

Yola—No fewer than 30 communities in five local government areas of Adamawa State have been submerged in a flood from Kiri Dam. Kiri Dam is in Shelleng local government area of the state.
The flood is coming even as the much dreaded one from the Lagdo Dam in Cameroon is being awaited.
Executive Secretary of Adamawa State Emergency Relief Agency, ADSEMA, Mr. Haruna Furo, who announced this in Yola yesterday, disclosed that the rescue operation was being mobilized to evacuate trapped people in the area. “Reports reaching us is that the flood had trapped several communities in Guyuk, Shelleng and Lamurde Local Government Areas. More is needed to be done to rescue the communities,” Furo said.

He said there was still no report of death but noted that hundreds of thousands of houses and farm lands had already been submerged and destroyed by the flood in the areas.
Furo maintained that already, the agency had established some rescue camps for the affected victims at Borong, Demsa and Numan. According him, the agency has also held an emergency meeting with police marine and other appropriate agencies for quick response mission.
Furo added that the aim of the joint meeting was to brief all authorities concerned on how to rescue the communities affected. “Among the agencies at the meeting are the police, Customs and Immigration marines and the State Fire Service.“The rest are the FRSC; the NSCDC; the Red Cross and the Waterways Associations, among others,“ Furo said.
When contacted over the development, Alhaji Sa’ad Bello, the state Coordinator, National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, confirmed that the state sister agency had contacted NEMA over the flood.

  1. Poor victims. Is there any foundation that is being sent up, an account being opened for them. Something genuine that can honestly be of help.

  2. Natural disasters cant differentiate on the basis of wealth, status or creed. Same to be said for environmental pollution. I wonder (pondering, eyes to the ceiling, palm on jaw)what would have happened if the government had created drainage systems that can channel this water to the Atlantic. Hmmm.Maybe the Brits are the only ones capable of that kinda thought.
