Military Base On Fire In Adamawa

Boko Haram militants reportedly stormed Gulak, the administrative headquarters of Madagali in northern part of Adamawa state, in order to take it over. The militants set ablaze a military base and artilleries.

Premium Times reports that the insurgents came around 7pm on Sunday, November 29, and engaged Nigerian troops in a fierce battle. They came in three vehicles brandishing guns, and burnt down a military base together with three artilleries.

Moreover, they carted away guns, security and local sources report.


“They came around 7 pm and started firing on the soldiers during which all the soldiers ran away. There was pandemonium, people scampered for their lives, many slept in bushes, they killed one soldier during the fierce battle.

“Our local vigilantes had tried by staying back, until another troops were deployed from Madagali town and Shuwa, they engaged them, if not they would have recaptured the town for the second time,” said James Ularamu, s former chairman of Madagali.
A former council chairman and a local vigilante, who requested anonymity, said there was a heavy gun battle. “After we chased them away they fled to the nearby Sambisa area,” a local vigilante added.

Army spokesperson has not made any official announcements yet, however, a member representing the area at the house of Representatives, Adamu Kamale, confirmed the attack.

The state commissioner of information, Ahmed Sajo, said additional troops had been deployed to the area.

AIG In Adamawa State, Abubakar Jinjiri Dead

Sahara Reporters has confirmed that AIG Abubakar Jinjiri died in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, on Friday according to ACP Olabisi Alofe Kolawole, the National Police Force Public Relations Officer, who spoke with a SaharaReporters correspondent.

“[AIG] Jinjiri died on Friday after a brief illness,” the spokesperson said. She added that “he was buried yesterday.”
ACP Kolawole also said that his replacement has not been announced and that formal announcements can be expected in the days to come.

AUN Staff pay condolence visit to Late Staff's family

Thursday 26th, Dr. Margee Ensign President of the American University of Nigeria sent a delegation to Mayo Belwa to condole with the family of the Late IT staff Mr. Hassan Alhaji Lawal over the tragic incident which led to his death on Tuesday 24th (Read full story here).  Mr. Abba Tahir, AVP Public Affairs described the tragic incident as very sad and also conveyed H.E Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s condolence to the family. The leader of the delegation Mr. Nourah Bamalli, AVP HR and Planning prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased.

The delegation, which comprised of Mr. Nourah Bamalli AVP HR and Planning, Mr. Abubakar Abba Tahir AVP Public Affairs, Mr Francis Chaming Director Information Technology, Mr. Murtala Abul Assistant Director IT, Mr. Surajudeen  Alabi Coordinator of Auxilliary, Mr. Mohammed Sani Assistant Director HR, Mr. Usman Isa Assistant Director Admissions, and other IT staff was received by the father of the deceased and other family members and friends. 

In his remarks, the father of the deceased who spoke on behalf of the Family thanked H.E. Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, President Margee, and the entire AUN community for being with the family throughout the trying moment. He gave glory to the will of Allah.
Prayers were offered for the repose of his soul.

Why B.O.C never performed in MAUTECH Yola - the real story

Yesterday 27th of November was the scheduled date for the anticipated BOC “No English” Concert and also the matriculation day of students at the Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola. But to the dismay of fun frenzied students, the show which got wide publicity on campus and online never held.

The organizers’ of the event Shakida Records in conjunction with the office of the Director of Socials for MAUTECH Yola and other partners was cancelled as a result of the security scare about a suicide bomber who was apprehended at the University primary school a day before the event (Read full story here). Spokesman for the organizers’ say the Dean of Students affairs turn down the approval for the hall when the security alert was escalated as a result of the recent findings.
Efforts by the show promoters to relocate the show to PIBZ night club proved abortive when they discovered a low turnout due to short notice of the change.

A new venue and location is being discussed currently by the organizers.

Suicide bomber caught at MAUTECH

I received information earlier today and yet to confirm with pictorial evidence that a suicide bomber was apprehended at Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola Yesterday . The suspect was said to have dressed up as a lady and was sharing biscuits to the kids within the area just opposite the University gates. the intent of gathering a large crowd in order to carry out his dastardly cat was however cut short when he (She) was chased by youths and students and was later caught with explosives strapped to his chest. This came at a time when the Matriculation of the University was to be held today Friday 27th November.

Adamawa State government has said the bailout fund it received was only used for settling salary liabilities and allowances owed its workforce.

The state government, through Finance Commissioner, Mahmood Yunusa, disclosed this yesterday in Yola, while announcing that payment of N362.5m to settle outstanding salaries and allowances of 952 health officials, whose September and October 2014 salaries had lingered.

Yunusa, while addressing newsmen accompanied by his Health and Information counterparts, Dr. Fatima Abubakar and Ahmed Sajoh, respectively, maintained that there was no cause for alarm over the N9.5bn bailout fund it received.
The commissioner said the government only utilised the funds to settle salaries and allowances owed its workers, as well as offset the two months salaries owed the 952 health officials working with the state’s Primary Health Care Development Agency.
He stressed that the bailout, part of which had already been dispensed for settlement of workers’ leave grant and allowances earlier, “remains very safe and locked away in a bank.
“Every kobo that was received to settle liabilities of our workers is still safe and will be utilised solely for that purpose.” Yunusa further stated that the Government was able to make a savings of N42.5m after verification of the number of nurses and health workers owed outstanding salaries turned out to be 952 against the 987 initially listed.

According to the finance commissioner, a total of N362.5m has already been earmarked for payment of the affected health workers beginning from November 30, adding that the money would be disbursed through table payment after they must have been screened.

Fuel Scarcity: DPR seals 8 filling stations in Adamawa, Taraba

The Department of Petroleum Products has sealed off eight filling stations in Adamawa and Taraba states.
Engr. Musa Sunday, Operation Controller in charge of Adamawa and Taraba states, made this known in Yola on Tuesday.
Sunday told our correspondent that the stiff measures was taken to control the persistent fuel scarcity in the state.

“As part of stiff measures to control the persistent fuel scarcity, eight filling stations were sealed off in Adamawa and Taraba States.
“The stations were sealed off after we found out that they were selling the product above official pump price and diversion” Sunday said.

He explained that, six of the sealed stations were in Adamawa State, while the other two are in Taraba State.

TRAGEDY: AUN Staff falls from mast and dies

Tragedy struck today when Mr. Hassan Lawal, a network engineer with the American University of Nigeria Yola (AUN) fell from a high internet mast and fell to his death. According to sources, he was up the mast performing a system upgrade when the belt attached to his waist broke and led to his fall.
May his soul rest in peace.

Adamawa Businessman Seeks Police Protection Over Threat To Life

A foremost Adamawa business tycoon and chairman of Madugu group of companies, Alhaji Musa Garba has petitioned security personnel in Adamawa state over threat to his life following his call for the removal of the district head of Jimeta, Alhaji Inuwa Baba Paris.

In a letter he sent to the police, the military and Department of State Security, a copy of which was made to LEADERSHIP SUNDAY, Garba noted that since he forwarded his complaint to the emirate council, his life has come under serious threat.
Garba noted that his call for the removal of Baba Paris as the district head, was unanimously endorsed by the people of the district as a result of his alleged pervasive disrespect for the people of the district.
He noted that since his assumption as the district head, Baba Paris have been carrying out actions that poses security threat to all the residents of the districts noting that his unilateral removal of the chief Imam of Jimeta Juma’at mosque early this year has caused a breakdown of law and order in the district.
“Rather than being highlighting potential dangers of instability and social disharmony, report has it that my petition was not well received by the higher authority it was addressed to. Infact, I have been subjected to verbal abuse, personal threats and intimidation by the office it was addressed to”, the letter stated.

Adamawa State Government orders closure of marets by 6pm + General warning

Adamawa State Governor Mohammadu Jibrilla has announced an indefinite ban on night markets in Yola following Tuesday’s blast in the state capital.

Jibrilla announced the ban, Wednesday,.

According to him, the ban is part of decisions taken at an emergency security meeting at Government House, Yola. He said all business premises that attracted crowds, particularly night markets, were expected to close by 6 p.m.

The governor, therefore, urged those affected to show understanding as such measures became necessary in order to save lives and property.

Shedding more light on the ban, the Commissioner for Information, Malam Ahmad Sajoh, said relaxation points, particularly those that gathered crowd, would also be affected by the ban. Sajoh said security operatives would assess the situation and take necessary measures to contain the security challenge

TRAGEDY: Bomb blast in Yola - the full story + pictures

Tragedy STRUCK TODAY 17TH November at about 7:30pm when suicide bomber detonated a bomb killing scores of persons and leaving others injured. The tragedy occurred at the front of the Truck park popularly referred to as kasuwan tipper. According to eye witness the bomber was said to have mingled among the crowd who were at the site to buy food.
Most of the persons’ affected were food vendors young men who came to patronize the vendors as well a truck drivers.  The vendors which consisted of moly women and children who assisted them were rushed to the Specialist hospital.

NEMA, Red Cross and the Nigeria Army, Police and other security and emergency agencies have since rushed to the scene to attend to the victims. Victimwere rushed to FMC , Peace Hospital and specialist hospital. At the FMC over 42 injured were reported and 3 dead. Numbers are feared to be higher at the specialist.

PHOTOS: Yola based online Columnist's house destroyed by fire

Online Columnist and owner of the facebook forum "Sayitwell", Mr. Idowu Paul who is also an instructor in a private institution in Yola, returned from work yesterday only to find a tragic scene. His house as well as those of his neighbors who live in the same blog was gutted by fire.

The tragic incident was caused by an electrical short circuit leaving virtually all properties destroyed. Fortunately no life was lost.
